May a Former Municipal Landfill Contaminate Groundwater in Microplastics? First Investigations from the “Prairie de Mauves Site” (Nantes, France)

چکیده
Municipal landfills receive a high amount of plastic waste and due to the occurring physical biochemical degradation processes, could be significant sources microplastics (MP). Evaluating threat groundwater through transfer MP via landfill leachates require more research. The former “Prairie de Mauves” landfill, operated from 1963 1987 by municipality Nantes (France), located above alluvial Loire River, represents good candidate for such investigations. Leachates were sampled along transect line upstream downstream in March June 2022. (>25 µm) quantified characterized using µFTIR imaging transmission mode. observed every sample with concentrations ranging 0.71 106.7 MP/L. Concentrations illustrate migration MP. Twelve polymers identified polyethylene (PE) polypropylene (PP) predominant. After conventional rainfall event (14.3 mm), higher concentrations, diversity, size ranges observed. Water infiltration heterogeneous geological substratum therefore enhanced larger towards River.

Leachate and Pollution Levels of Heavy Metals in the Groundwater near Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Site of Mashhad, Iran
Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the concentration of metals (lead, cadmium, chromium, copper, and nickel) in the landfill leachate and heavy metals in wells downstream of municipal solid waste landfill site in the city of Mashhad. Methods: In both winter and summer seasons in 2009 samples were collected from five wells that were in landfill downstream in Mashhad. Resul...
متن کاملLeachate characterization and assessment of groundwater pollution near municipal solid waste landfill site.
Leachate and groundwater samples were collected from Gazipur landfill-site and its adjacent area to study the possible impact of leachate percolation on groundwater quality. Concentration of various physico-chemical parameters including heavy metal (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn) and microbiological parameters (total coliform (TC) and faecal coliform (FC)) were determined in groundwater and lea...
متن کاملGroundwater Pollution by Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Leachate: A Case Study of Okhla Landfill Delhi
The large number of municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills and the many hazardous materials which they contain pose a serious threat to both surrounding environment and human populations. Once waste is deposited at the landfill, pollution can arise from the percolation of leachate to the porous ground surface. Contamination of groundwater by such leachate renders it and the associated aquifer un...
متن کاملEstimation of landfill gas generation in a municipal solid waste disposal site by LandGEM mathematical model
Anaerobic decomposition of organic compounds in landfills is responsible for generation of greenhouse gases. The present study aimed to determine the total gas and methane emission from a landfill located in Hamedan (west of Iran) from 2011 to 2030. LandGEM 3.02 model was used to estimate the gas emission with the volumetric methane percent of 60%, production potential of 107, and methane gener...
متن کاملGroundwater Contamination due to Bhalaswa Landfill Site in New Delhi
Sampling and analysis of leachate from Bhalaswa landfill and groundwater samples from nearby locations, clearly indicated the likely contamination of groundwater due to landfill leachate. The results of simulation studies carried out for the migration of Chloride from landfill shows that the simulation results are in consonance with the observed concentration of Chloride in the vicinity of land...
